I was born and raised on a farm in the Waikato and on leaving school joined the Waikato Farm Cadet Scheme, gaining invaluable farming knowledge, training and experience in sheep, cattle, dairy and cropping. I later complemented this hands-on experience with study of mechanical engineering at Waikato Polytechnic and a Diploma in Management Studies at Waikato University.
After farming, I worked as a product development manager developing and marketing drench guns and vaccinators for multinational drug companies.
I joined Hi-Tech Enviro Solutions in April 2011 as a Dairy Effluent Consultant, over subsequent years managing dairy effluent jobs which range from simple hydrant line extensions to full dairy effluent system installations. I hold the MPTA - Farm Dairy Effluent Hydraulic Design Qualification and Massey University Farm Dairy Effluent System Design and Management Qualification.
No two farming operations are the same. Each has its own climate, rainfall, water-table, soil type and contour, paddock shape and sizes, and farming system from low input where the solids content is low enough to go direct to a storage pond, up to intensive operations whose high solids content requires a solids separation system.
Whatever the challenge, I enjoy working and interacting with farmers. I thrive on the technical aspect and associated challenges of designing dairy effluent systems and am passionate about the environmental impact of sustainable dairy effluent systems. We can make a difference and that is what drives me.
